The City of Albuquerque's historic KiMo Theatre opened as a vaudeville / moving picture palace on September 19, 1927. Commissioned by businessman Oreste Bachechi, and his wife Maria, the building was designed by the Boller Brothers of Los Angeles to chowcase the rich heritage of the Southwest's Native American culture integrated with the moderne elements of Art Deco. The Lobby features panoramic murals by Carl Von Hassler depicting the Seven Cities of Cibola, wrought iron birds descending the staircases, and the famous "bearded" steer skulls with glowing amber eye which have become the theatre's trademark.
